High Gravity
High Gravity is a show where we talk about beer, brewing, and bullshit! Our primary goal is to talk about Michigan goings on in the beer world and local happenings around our beautiful state. Our aim is to present this information in a fun and not too serious way so that everyone from new brewers and beer drinkers to the most seasoned and experienced enthusiasts can enjoy the show! The more we drink during the show, the more comes out and the more fun we have so language CAN get a bit colorful at times though we do our best to keep it in check, most of the time!! We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 84: Mystery Can 2.0Welcoming Mr. Matt back this week, the guys start out this episode off with some odd stories before starting into the first beer, a most favorite of Darrell's a wonderful sour!! Mr. Matt shows off a unique skill he has with his fingers and glass rims while Mr. Jim brings us back to the point of our show and into the next beer, which is AMAZING btw!! With some on again off again BS through the rest of the episode, there is a nice mix of beers and other random discussions. While being a bit strapped for time, the guys start going through the last few beers quickly, and discuss hot peppers again amongst other things like ingredients tasting like sop and such... One of these final beers was a mystery can that Darrell made up and brought to the game, with a unique special ingredient that brings Johnny to tear the can open to verify (and then consume) said ingredient after being taunted with the description of scent and taste by the others before the can got to him, boy was that interesting but here ends the description, guess you're going to have to tune in and listen to find out what happens!!!

Episode 83: Garage beer with MattWelcoming Mr. Matt back to the show, the guys get right into the beer this time. For the first bit of the episode anyways, conversation remains fairly on topic about beer. Moving a bit off topic to ai generated songs from Kind of the Hill, then back to beer. Moving onto some wild stories from Johnny's youth and in combination with some talk of the old Biscos "gentlemens club" from back in the day... Moving onto a VERY enthusiastic reading of the next beer that makes Darrell question his excitement for the beer, the guys jump into some Garage Beer! The BS part does begin to climb a bit from there... Between Johnny's suggestion to get back on topic and Jim's desire to describe and engage in the boxed beer bottle discussion DOES get back to beer, for a bit anyways. The rest of the episode bounces between stories and beer talk though so sit back, listen and enjoy the discussion as I'm tired or writing...

Episode 82: We Have Beer

Sunday Apr 27, 2025
Episode 82: We Have BeerStarting the episode off with one of our most enthusiastic openings yet, the guys start off with the first of a few wonderful Crowlers Mr. Jim brought from local brewery "War Water Brewery". Flashing back to coffee yet again, Johnny brings up a coffee he actually wants to try and after some discussion about a particular ingredient and some random discussion. Bringing the topic back to another selection supplied by Mr Jim and then moving onto some D&D discussion. This episode, while mixing in some more mild mannered BS (not all though don't worry), it is still a fairly beer-centric episode sprinkled in with all the other random topics of conversation! Moving back to a another coffee "espresso" beer, the guys get into a new selection provided by Mr Jeff and as a real switch up, it's one Johnny actually REALLY likes! Shortly thereafter though Johnny brings up a bad memory of the WORST cookie he has ever had just before bringing this episode to a close.

Sunday Apr 20, 2025
Episode 81: Was Vaseline UsedWelcoming back Mr. Marty, the guys complete the High Gravity initiation with a third episode salute! Starting the episode off with some talk of redneck activities, the guys get into a couple quick DO NOT DO THIS when naked in the outdoors tales... After a few minutes of boomstick discussions, there is a quick flash to the first beer finally then back to the BS. It really is a fairly BS filled episode for sure, the guys even get into some politics! Don't worry though, it's beer related politics haha. Conversation takes a quick upturn on a more firm note and stance about mindsets and ah, hiccups, ya hiccups... Finally back to beer that may in fact be WAAAAYYYYY too enjoyable, conversation sort of stays about beer, for a bit anyways. Though as the evidence continues to grow that this is in fact the third episode of this recording session, with a few last minute samples and some more interesting stories, the guys bring the episode to a close and opt to go get some lunch...

Episode 80: Struth be toldThis week completes a family saga for us, we finally got the famous Mr. Marty, father of three of our guests and husband to another, to join us for an episode! Bringing the guys a wonderful beverage mix of his own, he shared with us a drink called "Struth" and in conjunction with some bourbon the guys had just sitting around collecting dust everyone had a GREAT time! This was a fun episode with some good stories (and more dirt on some of our past guests) so I'm going to leave the description simple where it is and just say, give it a listen!!

Episode 79: Generational BrewsMr. Alex and his dad Mike join the guys this week and bring a selection of their wonderful home brews. Starting with a fantastic cider the conversation gets Johnny reminiscing about his grandfathers old farm and some of the fruit options that were available while growing up around it. Moving into the next topic of discussion, mead comes back to the forefront! Talking about ways to manipulate the outcome and progressing into some talk about water quality, well water in particular, following that discussion. Getting into their final home brew presentation, the guys sample an IPA made by Alex's dad Mike out of an "Insta Kit" for its speed and simplicity, it is a fantastic example of something someone can do SUPER easy right in their home! Finishing off the sampling from the duo this week with a fantastic commercial example of an IPA, the guys briefly get into some discussion of yeast before rounding the episode out. OH YA, someone forgot to send the link we were supposed to post on the page so that is missing sorry...

Sunday Mar 30, 2025
Episode 78: BAKEDThis is an interesting episode, Mr. Jim unfortunately was a bit under the weather and last minute was unable to make it on recording day. We had a special guest lined up who made some AMAZING cupcakes for us so we of course had to still do an episode so apologies to Mr. Jim, you missed some FANTASTIC cupcakes and some good beers too! We will see you next week though! Nonetheless we had a fantastic time with Lois of "Little bit of Mom" and maker of "Jim's Nuts" and got her drinking and LIKING some good dark beers provided by Jeff the beer donator! Seriously thank you yet again Mr. Jeff!! Lois made her FANTASTIC "Countdown Cupcakes" for the weeks show and describes the ingredients and a bit about cooking with alcohol. Check her tags below to see where you too can purchase some of her AWESOME baked goods and or get a sack of Jim's Nuts! We hear some tales of the cooking shows and competitions she has participated in and of course talk about the beers we have in studio among some other random things. Though the episode does lack Jim's alluring and oh so intoxicating voice describing our wonderful beverages featured this episode, Johnny and Darrell make the best of it and still manage to get the job done (thanks to Untappd) even amongst their complete inability to read the 3 Floyds label, you truly have a highly specialized talent to read those Mr. Jim, if I wore hats they would be off to you sir! In an unusual fashion, the BS is kept to a minimum throughout the whole episode, for the most part anyways; it really is probably one of our cleanest episodes in quite sometime haha.

Episode 77: Mystery Can
Sunday Mar 23, 2025
Sunday Mar 23, 2025
Episode 77: Mystery CanStarting off the episode with a "Mystery Beer" Johnny brought to the show. Tune in for the interesting details about that one AND how Johnny actually kinda screwed up a joke he tried to pull on Brother Darrell, though listen for the dings when Darrell guesses correct details... Comparing some differences between that one and a fresh pour of the same beer, the guys note some changes that happened when it was canned several weeks prior to sampling today. Touching on the subject of chemistry, the guys discuss some sciency stuff that goes into brewing that MOST people tend to overlook. Moving onto the main content of this episode, the guys get into a vertical of KBS, comparing, contrasting and discussing how it has seemingly changed over the three different year bottles sampled. Having a bit of a discussion about the upcoming Darklord Day as well before finishing the episode with a wonderfully special beer provided by Brother Phil, the guys get into a FANTASTIC special release Dragon's Milk from New Holland.

Episode 76: Sour we've done beforeWelcoming back Steve and Maureen from last weeks episode, we are back to beers this week! With a quick beer flashback to the bottle share episode, the guys start off with a favorite of Brother Darrell's, a sour! Moving into some more Epic beers we discover one that Johnny actually does NOT like! But things do get a bit better after that. Though between a couple different blendings of a couple of today's beverages, Johnny has some mixed results with attempts, a couple good blends, as well as couple fairly bad ones too. Moving into some other topics, everyone gets into some discussion of desserts with alcohol, overall a fun episode nonetheless!

Sunday Mar 09, 2025
Episode 75: Scotchy Scotch ScotchJoined this week by Starr Craft regulars Steve and Maureen, our guests graciously share a fine selection of Scotch Whisky from their collection. In today's episode we learn why a bit of water is important in tasting techniques for Scotch, or any other liquor for that matter and they brought a unique drinking vessel that gets passed around later in the episode. A fun story about Johnny's mom from a trip their family made to Scotland years ago and toured one of the distillery's that makes a Scotch featured in this weeks episode. Along with some other stories, in particular from our guests of their time in Scotland (and a couple from Johnny from his time there), somehow everyone stays fairly on topic of discussion today so not too much to note here in the description... Finishing the episode out, Mr. Steve graces us with his rendition of the song "The Parting Glass".
